Octopussy

Octopussy editorial content, 007, James Bond, EON Production movies, spy movie podcasts, espionage, Roger MooreOctopussy was the 1983 installment of the James Bond series, starring Roger Moore as Bond.

An agent dies with a Fabergé egg which leads to an operation to unearth Octopussy’s (Maud Adams) smuggling operation.  This operation was a cover for a planned nuclear attack.

Louis Jourdan gives a strong performance as Kamal Khan, the lead villain in the movie.   Khan is supported by his henchman Gobinda (Kabir Bedi).  The soviet contingent is lead by Orlov (Steven Berkoff).

Much of this movie was filmed in India, bringing the Bond audience to another exotic location. The pretitle scene with Bond flying a micro-jet were filmed in Utah in the US.

Octopussy’s Turban Expert – Del Singh – A video interview

Who knew? When Octopussy was being made, they found they needed someone who could tie a turban for Gobinda. And they were in Peterborough, England in 1983. Sounds like a challenge.

Dan and Tom talk with Del Singh about how he ended up taking on this job with his brother. He also talks about working on Octopussy and some of the challenges he witnessed while they were filming.

Costumes can make or break a movie.  Eon Productions were struggling when filming Octopussy.  They couldn’t get the turbans to both look right and stay on the actor’s heads during actions scenes.  To make it even more of a challenge, they were filming near Peterborough England. What do do?

They found a turban expert, Del Singh, who happened to live in Peterborough.
