City where Kamal Khan (Louis Jourdan) and General Orlov (Steven Berkoff) plant a nuclear device in a circus cannon in Octopussy. Using the traveling circus run by Octopussy (Maud Adams) as a cover, Orlov and Kamal plan to detonate the bomb on the US Air Force’s Feldstadt Air Base across the border in West Germany and make Western Europe think the Americans triggered one of their nukes by mistake. Orlov is certain that this will force the US into unilateral nuclear disarmament along the border, opening the way for a massive Soviet invasion.

Unable to tap into a final briefing between Orlov and Kamal at the Monsoon Palace in Udaipur, India—because of the interference when Magda (Kristina Wayborn) uses her blow-dryer—Bond (Roger Moore) does hear the name Karl-Marx-Stadt and the reference to something happening in one week. Escaping from Kamal’s palace, 007 makes it back to East Germany in time to defeat the insidious plan. After the reunification of Germany, Karl-Marx-Stadt reverted to its original name, Chemnitz, on June 1, 1990.
