The ransom demanded by Renard (ROBERT CARLYLE) to buy freedom for Elektra (SOPHIE MARCEAU), daughter of billionaire construction magnate Sir Robert King in The World Is Not Enough. On the advice of M (DAME JUDI DENCH), King didn’t pay that ransom, a rescue effort was botched, and Elektra succeeded in escaping on her own. King then used the money, as Bond discovers, to pay for secret data on competing oil pipelines. (All of this occurs before the actual story begins).
