The original villain in an early draft of Richard Maibaum’s Diamonds Are Forever screenplay.
Moving away from the serious approach of the previous film, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, the draft introduced Goldfinger’s brother as a power-mad Swedish shipping magnate who houses a laser cannon in the hull of one of his fleet’s supertankers. Plans were even made to have Gert Fröbe play the “twin.” This story idea was later abandoned when producer Albert R. Broccoli came up with the idea of Blofeld impersonating a reclusive Howard Hughes–like billionaire. However, aspects of the character resurfaced in the character of Karl Stromberg in The Spy Who Loved Me.
