Special envoy to the prime minister of England, portrayed by Paul Ritter in Quantum of Solace. Haines is actually working for Quantum, an international crime syndicate that’s later revealed to be a branch of SPECTRE. Bond (Daniel Craig) encounters Haines’s bodyguard during a performance of Tosca in Bregenz, Austria, and throws him off a roof. Although the guard is obviously an enemy agent, MI6 identifies him as a member of Britain’s Special Branch, and subsequently revokes 007’s passport and credit cards.
Note: “Guy Haines” was also the name of the character played by Farley Grainger in Alfred Hitchcock’s acclaimed 1951 thriller Strangers on a Train.
