MARTIN, GEORGE

(January 3, 1926–March 8, 2016): Academy Award–nominated British music producer, arranger, and composer who produced the Beatles’ music until their breakup in 1969, and later scored Live and Let Die. A London native, Martin made his motion picture composing debut on director Ken Annakin’s crime comedy Crooks Anonymous (1962).

He had previously gotten his start in motion picture music production on director Anthony Kimmins’s comedy Smiley (1956), which featured future Bond player Guy Doleman. Martin received his Oscar nomination for Best Scoring of Music, Adaptation or Treatment for the Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night (1964).
