MOUTON ROTHSCHILD 1955

Contributed by: The James Bond Movie Encyclopedia by Steven Jay Rubin

The wine selected by SPECTRE assassins Mr. Wint (Bruce Glover) and Mr. Kidd (Putter Smith) when they bring dinner to James Bond (Sean Connery) and Tiffany Case (Jill St. John) in Diamonds Are Forever.

Sniffing Wint’s potent aftershave and remembering the scent from a previous encounter, Bond decides to test the man’s knowledge of wines. He tastes the Mouton and deems it excellent. But he tells Wint that for such an elaborate meal, a claret wine would have been more suitable. Wint falls for the ploy and says that the ship’s cellar is poorly stocked with clarets. Bond blows Wint’s cover by explaining that the Mouton is a claret.
