We read many books on spies – real spies and movie spies. We do this so we can gain a little more insight into the spy movies we are having fun with. Dave Holcomb’s book looks at James Bond from a unique vantage point. And, with EON Productions just announcing the new James Bond movie (April 2020) is called No Time to Die it even makes his viewpoint even more cool. Dave weaves a story on how Bond has evolved over the decades. He provides some unique insights, a treatment of masculinity, sexism, race, and a very interesting concept of how history and the Bond series goes through what is called a History Gyre. The History Gyre suggests that history does not only repeat itself but that it moves in an evolutionary circle. Another key point is that Dave suggests that the James Bond movies go through this same evolutionary circle. It is a great book, which we enjoyed reading.
