BOOTHROYD, MAJOR

The no-nonsense armorer, played by Peter Burton, who supplies James Bond (Sean Connery) with his new Walther PPK pistol in the first Bond film, Dr. No. When Burton was unable to return in the second film, From Russia with Love, he was replaced by tall, aristocratic Desmond Llewelyn, who would go on to portray 007’s long-suffering quartermaster in seventeen James Bond films.

Though Llewelyn’s character is also credited as “Boothroyd” in his first appearance, and KGB agent Anya Amasova (Barbara Bach) addresses him by that name in his eighth film, The Spy Who Loved Me, he’s generally referred to only by his British Secret Service code, Q.
