BRIGADIER

Contributed by: The James Bond Movie Encyclopedia by Steven Jay Rubin

The American commanding officer portrayed by John McLaren in Goldfinger. He leads the US infantry assault against Goldfinger (Gert Fröbe) and his forces after they break into Fort Knox. Another brigadier, portrayed by Paul Carpenter, bids farewell to Bond (Sean Connery) at the airport after the battle.

Note: In the real US military, there is no rank of brigadier, only brigadier general, and an officer of that rank would be addressed as “General.” Why these two officers are referred to “Brigadier” is a bit of a mystery—but it sounds very British.
