Where producer Albert R. Broccoli first heard about ski-jumper/parachutist Rick Sylvester and his death-defying jump off Canada’s Asgard Peak—a stunt he would recreate for The Spy Who Loved Me teaser. To Broccoli, though, Sylvester admitted that the Asgard jump had been faked for the advertisement. Sylvester said he had instead jumped off the much smaller El Capitan Peak in Yosemite Valley, California. He had attempted to jump the Asgard, but weather conditions had made it impossible. For $30,000, Sylvester returned to the Asgard in July 1976 and achieved the impossible for the 007 cameras.
