COLTRANE, ROBBIE

(March 30, 1950–     ; birth name: Anthony Robert McMillan): Rotund Scottish character actor who portrayed colorful Russian mafioso Valentin Dmitrovich Zukovsky in GoldenEye and The World Is Not Enough. He’s best known today as giant gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid in eight Harry Potter movies.

Born in Rutherglen, Scotland, Coltrane made his motion picture debut in director Bertrand Tavernier’s science fiction drama Death Watch (1980), which also featured Bond player Max von Sydow (Never Say Never Again). Coltrane’s additional feature credits include Krull (1983), as Rhun; Defense of the Realm (1985); Absolute Beginners (1986); Henry V (1989), as Sir John Falstaff; Van Helsing (2004); and Ocean’s Twelve (2004).
