(December 4, 1913–February 23, 1965): American character actor who portrayed Quarrel, the Cayman Islander who helps James Bond (Sean Connery) in the first James Bond movie, Dr. No. Director Terence Young first saw Kitzmiller in director Luigi Zampa’s To Live in Peace (1947), the actor’s film debut.
Born in Battle Creek, Michigan, Kitzmiller had settled in Italy after completing his US military service during World War II, and he spent his early career performing exclusively in Italian films. His first English-language film was Vincent Sherman’s drama The Naked Earth (1958), which also featured future Bond player Laurence Naismith (Diamonds Are Forever).
