Red Chinese specialist in nuclear fission, portrayed by Burt Kwouk in Goldfinger. Ling’s government is providing Goldfinger (Gert Fröbe) with an atomic device he intends to explode inside Fort Knox, Kentucky, irradiating America’s entire gold supply and essentially rendering it unusable for fifty-eight years. The hoped-for result: economic chaos in the West for the Chinese, plus a tenfold increase in the value of Goldfinger’s own smuggled gold cache. When the US infantry forces at Fort Knox launch their counterattack, Goldfinger, wearing an American officer’s uniform, shoots Ling in front of them. Convinced that Goldfinger is one of them, the Americans move on and are promptly mowed down by the golden gunman.
