(August 16, 1958–     ; birth name: Madonna Louise Ciccone): American pop singing sensation—legendary for favorites like “Material Girl” and “Like a Virgin”—who performed the title tune in Die Another Day and made a decidedly low-key cameo appearance in the film as a fencing instructor at the Blades fencing club in London.

A native of Bay City, Michigan, Madonna made her big-screen acting debut as a club singer in director Harold Becker’s coming-of-age drama Vision Quest (1985). That same year, she made a more indelible impression opposite Rosanna Arquette, portraying the title character in director Susan Seidelman’s dramedy Desperately Seeking Susan (1985). Her performance as wisecracking women’s league baseball player Mae Mordabito in director Penny Marshall’s period dramedy A League of Their Own (1992) was also a standout.
