STIRRED, NOT SHAKEN?

Contributed by: The Complete James Bond Movie Encyclopedia by Steven Jay Rubin

If you’re a Bond purist, you’ll consider this to be one of the great bloopers of the series. Arriving at Henderson‘s (CHARLES GRAY) Japanese-furnished apartment in Tokyo in You Only Live Twice, Bond (SEAN CONNERY) is offered a martini. Henderson asks, “Stirred, not shaken?” And Bond, without batting an eye, says it’s fine, apparently forgetting his long history of martinis—shaken, not stirred.

Either this was one of those little inside jokes that filmmakers sometimes play on audiences (“we know it’s wrong, but we’re having some fun with you”), or actor Charles Gray just blew the drink order and nobody felt like getting it right.
