VILLECHAIZE, HERVÉ

(April 23, 1943–September 4, 1993): Three-foot-eleven French character actor who portrayed Nick Nack, clever and colorful servant to Scaramanga (Christopher Lee), in The Man with the Golden Gun. Villechaize is best known as Tattoo, Ricardo Montalban’s partner on the popular US television series Fantasy Island (126 episodes, 1977–1983).

A native of Paris, Villechaize was a fine artist in France when he decided to give show business a shot. He made his credited motion picture debut as Beppo in director James Goldstone’s crime comedy The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight (1971). Sadly, he died by suicide in September 1993.
