CUMMING, ALAN

Contributed by: The James Bond Movie Encyclopedia by Steven Jay Rubin

(January 27, 1965–     ): Scottish character actor who shone as obnoxious, egotistical computer programmer Boris Grishenko in GoldenEye. His exclamation of choice, “I am invincible,” was memorable, and so was his character’s death as a liquid-oxygen-encased icicle.

A native of Aberfeldy, Perthshire, Cumming made his motion picture debut as Alexander Novak in director Ian Sellar’s drama, Prague (1992). His post-Bond film credits include Eyes Wide Shut (1999), The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas (2000), Spy Kids (2001), Nicholas Nickleby (2002), X-Men 2 (2003), and Battle of the Sexes (2017).

American audiences know him as Eli Gold on the TV series The Good Wife (119 episodes, 2010–2016).
