The high-speed motorboats featured in Live and Let Die that use jets of water for propulsion. The engines on these unusual boats suck in the water and pump it out in a fast stream that propels the boat forward and provides rudder control.
Without the jet stream, the boat cannot change direction—a dangerous fact that actor Roger Moore learned during location shooting in Louisiana. Moore had been practicing some tight turns on a bayou waterway when his motor cut out, leaving him with no steering at 45 mph. Losing control, he smashed into a dock—an unfortunate accident that sent the new James Bond to the local doctor with a jammed leg, a fractured front tooth, and general bruising.
