Former Soviet republic in Central Asia that is the site of King Industries’ oil pipeline in The World Is Not Enough. Beset by local rebels who demand that the pipeline avoid cultural landmarks such as an ancient church, the pipeline is also a convenient terrorist target. That threat is a ruse, though: the terrorist, Renard (Robert Carlyle), and the oil company’s owner, Elektra King (Sophie Marceau), are actually plotting to destroy three competing Russian pipelines instead.
