(July 18, 1930–May 24, 2016): British actor of Chinese heritage (his last name rhymes with “cluck”) who portrayed Mr. Ling, the Red Chinese specialist in nuclear fission in Goldfinger.

Kwouk also played one of the space scientists employed by Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Donald Pleasence) in You Only Live Twice, and one of the Chinese army officers who bids for compromising photographs during a madcap auction in the 1967 Casino Royale spoof.

Kwouk is probably best known as Cato, fanatical martial arts instructor and sparring partner to Inspector Clouseau (Peter Sellers) in the Pink Panther film series. A native of Warrington, Cheshire, England, Kwouk made his credited big-screen debut as Li in director Mark Robson’s The Inn of the Sixth Happiness (1958), working with future Bond players Curt Jurgens and Tsai Chin.
