Extremely knowledgeable diamond broker portrayed by British actor Laurence Naismith in Diamonds Are Forever. Like Colonel Smithers (RICHARD VERNON) of the Bank of England in Goldfinger, it is Munger’s job to brief Bond (SEAN CONNERY) and M (BERNARD LEE) on a plague of smuggling—in this case, diamond smuggling—that is crippling British mining in South Africa.
Like Fleming, Munger communicates a great deal of information on the peculiarities of African diamond mining while narrating documentarylike footage of a typical mining operation. Apparently, though, the dialogue in Richard Maibaum and Tom Mankiewicz‘s script was not sufficiently long to cover the scope of the minidocumentary on diamond mining. Thus, if you listen carefully, you’ll notice that the following phrase is repeated in order to stretch out the narration: ” . . . even though the industry prides itself on the loyalty and devotion of its workers.”
