ODDJOB

Contributed by: The James Bond Movie Encyclopedia by Steven Jay Rubin

The prototypical villain’s henchman, as portrayed by Japanese actor Harold Sakata in Goldfinger. A Korean by birth, and mute, the powerfully built Oddjob works for Auric Goldfinger (Gert Fröbe) as his bodyguard/chauffeur/assassin and sometime caddy. His trademark weapon is a bowler hat equipped with a razor-sharp steel brim, which in his hands becomes a sort of lethal Frisbee. Dressed impeccably in formal suits, with a perpetually wicked smile across his face, he’s a formidable presence who nearly destroys Bond (Sean Connery) in the climactic fight inside glittering Fort Knox.

Predating the karate/kung fu genre by a full decade, Oddjob was one of a series of Asian supervillains who are quite popular in the world-spanning 007 series.
