(March 27, 1967– ; birth name: Miriam Soto): Sultry actress and cover-girl model of Puerto Rican descent who portrayed drug runner’s moll Lupe Lamora in Licence to Kill. Soto looks great in the role and has a directness befitting a mobster’s girlfriend, but her character never quite works due to the unbelievable manner in which she switches allegiances; although it’s obvious that her relationship with Sanchez (Robert Davi) is a nightmare, the writers should have given her a little more time to get close to Bond (Timothy Dalton).
A native of Brooklyn, Soto made her motion picture debut as a studio dancer in director Stuart Rosenberg’s crime comedy The Pope of Greenwich Village (1984). Her additional feature credits include The Mambo Kings (1992), Hostage (1992), Don Juan DeMarco (1994), Mortal Kombat (1995), Spy Hard (1996), and Piñero (2001).
