TENNYSON, ALFRED LORD

Contributed by: The James Bond Movie Encyclopedia by Steven Jay Rubin

(August 6, 1809–October 6, 1892): English poet whose poem “Ulysses,” is quoted as a source of strength by M (Dame Judi Dench) during the relevancy hearings in which she’s forced to testify in Skyfall:

We are not now that strength which in old days

Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;

One equal temper of heroic hearts,

Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will

To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
