BOUQUET, CAROLE

(August 18, 1957–     ): Hauntingly beautiful French actress who portrayed the vengeful Melina Havelock in For Your Eyes Only. Bouquet was a casting coup for the Bond producers—perfectly suited to playing a half-Greek, half-British archaeologist’s daughter whose parents are brutally murdered early in the film. When Havelock’s beautiful eyes are featured in close-up after her parents’ deaths, they perfectly convey her seething desire to avenge her family. Armed with a crossbow, she’s an impressive sight skulking through the woods of Spain in pursuit of Cuban hit man Hector Gonzales (Stefan Kalipha).

A native of Neuilly-sur-Seine (now Hauts-de-Seine), Bouquet made her film debut in director Luis Buñuel’s That Obscure Object of Desire (1977), which was nominated for the Best Foreign Film Oscar. She later won the César for Best Actress for playing Gérard Depardieu’s wife in Bertrand Blier’s Trop belle pour toi (“Too Beautiful for You,” 1989).
