(October 18, 1916–January 8, 1992): Lean-faced Scottish character actor who portrayed villainous Professor R. J. Dent in Dr. No. He also portrayed Ernst Stavro Blofeld in From Russia with Love (though his voice was dubbed by Eric Pohlmann).

Prior to his Bond experience, Dawson had the memorable role of Grace Kelly’s attempted murderer in director Alfred Hitchcock’s 1954 thriller Dial M for Murder.

A native of Edinburgh, Dawson made his credited motion picture debut in director Anthony Asquith’s Johnny in the Clouds (1945), a.k.a. The Way to the Stars. A favorite of director Terence Young, he was cast in Young’s World War II drama They Were Not Divided (1950), which also featured future Bond players Edward Underdown (Thunderball), Michael Brennan, Desmond Llewelyn, Christopher Lee, and Peter Burton. In 1967, Dawson joined fellow Bond players Daniela Bianchi, Adolfo Celi, Bernard Lee, and Lois Maxwell in the Bond spoof Operation Kid Brother, which starred Sean Connery’s kid brother, Neil Connery.
