500,000 FRANCS

The bank when James Bond (BARRY NELSON) first approaches the baccarat table in the TV film “Casino Royale.” Bond explains to interested onlooker and British agent Clarence Leiter (MICHAEL PATE) that 500,000 francs equals about $1,500, or 500 pounds (in 1954 equivalents). Bond waits until the bank reaches one million francs before he says “Banco” and matches the bank. He wins with a nine, versus the bank’s “baccarat,” or zero.
