(Paris, April 9, 1933- ) French superstar actor who had a cameo role in the 1967 spoof of Casino Royale. Belmondo is the brawling French foreign legionnaire who joins forces with Sir James Bond (DAVID NIVEN) in the climactic fight in the Monte Carlo casino. Belmondo was also the star of the great 007 spoof That Man from Rio, which was directed by Philippe De Broca in 1964. Filmed on location in Brazil at a breakneck pace, the film was one of the few imitators to develop a cult following of its own, along with Daniel Mann’s Our Man Flint in 1966.
