Italian-made .25 caliber semiautomatic pistol that is 007’s weapon of choice prior to the start of Dr. No. According to Bond (Sean Connery), he’s used it for ten years, since 1952, and he’s never missed with it. However, Major Boothroyd the armorer (Peter Burton) believes the Beretta is too light a weapon for a double-0 agent, with no stopping power, deeming it more appropriate for “a lady’s handbag.” Consequently, since it jammed on 007 on his last mission, sending him to the hospital for six months, M (Bernard Lee) orders Boothroyd to show Bond the finer points of the Walther PPK.
