BOA, BRUCE

(July 10, 1930–April 17, 2004; birth name: Andrew Bruce Boa): Canadian character actor, mostly in Britain from 1958, who portrayed the US Air Force commander of Feldstadt Air Base in Octopussy. Born in Calgary, Boa made his feature film debut in director Basil Dearden’s romantic space comedy Man in the Moon (1960), working alongside future Bond players Charles Gray and Nikki Van der Zyl (who redubbed many of the female characters in the early Bond films).

In addition to his yeoman work in the Bond picture, Boa is known for playing General Rieekan, the Rebel base commander on Hoth in The Empire Strikes Back (1980), as well as for many television appearances in Great Britain and the United States.
