HAGGERTY, FRED

(July 14, 1918–2002): Hungarian-born actor/stuntman who portrayed Krilencu the Bulgarian assassin in From Russia with Love. A native of Budapest, Haggerty was a working stuntman and stunt coordinator when he was cast as Krilencu.

As an actor, he had previously worked with Russia costar Pedro Armendariz in Captain Sindbad (1963). Haggerty later returned to stunt work in the Bond series, making uncredited contributions to The Spy Who Loved Me, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, and A View to a Kill. His last stunt role was on Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988). His final acting credit was as the gatekeeper in director Jonathan Lynn’s crime comedy Nuns on the Run (1990), which starred Bond veteran Robbie Coltrane.
