HUSTON, JOHN

(Nevada, Missouri, August 5, 1906—1987) Two-time Oscar-winning American director, writer, and actor; son of actor Walter Huston; and father of actress Angelica Huston. He portrayed M in the 1967 spoof Casino Royale and also codirected the film.

Huston’s M, a low-key bureaucrat with an extremely bright red wig, is blown up in rural England when a barrage directed at Sir James Bond‘s (DAVID NIVEN) mansion by M himself falls short. Appropriately, considering the tone of this film, the only surviving body part is his wig. Huston directed himself and the Deborah Kerr sequence that takes place at a Scottish manor house.
