Oddly shaped, surreal religious retreat that is the home of televangelist Joe Butcher (Wayne Newton) in Licence to Kill. Located outside fictional Isthmus City, it also houses the cocaine laboratories of drug runner Franz Sanchez (Robert Davi)—it’s where his drugs are being dissolved in gasoline. From this unusual location, Sanchez’s tanker-truck convoy begins its ride to the ocean.
In reality, the OMI complex, much of which is cone-shaped—hence the film’s references to “cone power”—is the Centro Ceremonial Otomí, or Otomí Ceremonial Center, in Temoaya, Mexico, which the native Otomí people erected in 1980 to serve as a meeting place and to honor their religion and culture.
