SANCHEZ, FRANZ

Contributed by: The James Bond Movie Encyclopedia by Steven Jay Rubin

Ruthless South American drug lord portrayed effectively by Robert Davi in Licence to Kill. Sanchez crosses paths with James Bond (Timothy Dalton) when he decides to sneak back into the US and confront his girlfriend, Lupe Lamora (Talisa Soto), who is having an illicit affair in Key West, Florida.

Getting wind of Sanchez’s arrival on US soil, CIA agent Felix Leiter (David Hedison) takes time out from preparing for his own wedding to Della Churchill (Priscilla Barnes) and enlists his best man, 007, to help him nail Sanchez. The combined CIA and DEA operation is successful, and Sanchez’s plane is captured. Unfortunately, due to traitorous DEA agent Ed Killifer (Everett McGill), Sanchez escapes and exacts his revenge—murdering Della and maiming Leiter. Sanchez’s act enrages Bond, who turns rogue and goes after the drug lord, determined to take down him and his empire.
