LAMORA, LUPE

Hot-blooded South American drug lord’s moll portrayed by Talisa Soto in Licence to Kill. Her tryst with Alvarez (Gerardo Albarrán), a local lothario, brings Franz Sanchez (Robert Davi) to the Bahamas in the film’s teaser sequence. After Dario (Benicio Del Toro) literally cuts out the man’s heart, Sanchez whips Lupe, throws her into a jeep, and attempts to make his escape. When DEA agents intercept him and his men, a shoot-out occurs, and Lupe is separated from her boyfriend. Bond (Timothy Dalton) greets her momentarily while chasing after Sanchez.

Since there’s no reason to hold Lupe—the authorities are unaware that she’s Sanchez’s squeeze—she’s released, which allows her to join Sanchez’s drug distributor, boozy Milton Krest (Anthony Zerbe), who will transport her back to Isthmus City aboard his research vessel, the Wavekrest. Bond sees Lupe again when he sneaks aboard the Wavekrest, and she begins to see him as another potential savior. Back in Isthmus City, as Bond worms his way into the confidence of Sanchez posing as a high-rolling gun for hire, he also finds himself prey to Lupe’s seductive moves. Lupe eventually loses Bond to CIA agent Pam Bouvier (Carey Lowell), but she has her own happy ending as the new paramour of Isthmus City’s President Lopez (Pedro Armendariz Jr.).
