LOWELL, CAREY

(February 11, 1961–     ): Tall, beautiful American actress and former model who portrayed CIA undercover operative Pam Bouvier in Licence to Kill. Lowell is the highlight of the film, a fresh-faced, intelligent, gutsy fellow agent who lends Bond (Timothy Dalton) a resourceful hand against South American drug lord Franz Sanchez (Robert Davi).

In many ways, she perfectly represented the new action woman of the 1980s—à la Sigourney Weaver in Aliens (1986)—who can handle herself just as well as a man and whose presence helps alleviate a dangerous situation rather than compounding it. A native of Huntington, New York, Lowell made her feature film debut as Julie in director Albert Pyun’s crime thriller Dangerously Close (1986). Once married to actor Richard Gere, she is probably best known to TV viewers as ADA Jamie Ross on Law & Order (49 episodes, 1996–2001).
