TOKYO

Japanese capital city that figures in the plot of many James Bond movies. In From Russia with Love, it’s where agents of SPECTRE capture and torture a British agent to get the Secret Service recognition code. In the same film, when Bond (Sean Connery) is asked to compare the sexual prowess of Tatiana Romanova (Daniela Bianchi) to that of the women he’s known in the west, 007 remembers a time when he was in Tokyo with M (Bernard Lee); his story ends abruptly when M turns off Bond’s tape-recorded conversation.

In You Only Live Twice, Tokyo is the film’s principal location; it’s where Bond meets Tiger Tanaka (Tetsuro Tamba), the head of the Japanese Secret Service. During his stay, 007 visits a sumo wrestling match, where he meets Tanaka’s agent Aki (Akiko Wakabayashi). And during a chase with agents of SPECTRE, one of Tanaka’s helicopters uses its powerful electromagnet to lift the chasing vehicle into the air, after which it’s dropped into Tokyo Bay.
