British scientist/ inventor who, in The Man with the Golden Gun, creates a solar cell that could solve the world’s energy crisis. Considered 95 percent efficient, the cell—known as a “solex agitator“—can convert solar radiation into electricity on an industrial basis. Scaramanga (CHRISTOPHER LEE) is commissioned by ruthless industrialist Hai Fat (RICHARD LOO) to kill Gibson and steal the solex. Gibson is assassinated, but James Bond (ROGER MOORE) witnesses the event and eventually tracks Scaramanga to his island retreat.
