Tall and slinky American astrophysicist and undercover CIA agent portrayed by Lois Chiles in Moonraker. On loan to Drax Industries from NASA, Holly isn’t too impressed with Bond (Roger Moore) at the start, since it was his government that lost the shuttle in the film’s teaser. Gradually, they learn to respect one another, and eventually they link company head Hugo Drax (Michael Lonsdale) to secret operations in Rio de Janeiro and the jungles of Brazil.
Captured by Drax, Holly and Bond are about to be roasted by a shuttle engine when they manage to escape through a ventilation shaft. Eventually they steal aboard a shuttle and participate in the final assault on Drax’s radar-proof space station. Their shuttle finally destroys the nerve gas pods Drax plans to use to depopulate the Earth.
Holly and Bond are assuming a tender position aboard their returning shuttle when closed-circuit video reveals them to M (Bernard Lee), Q (Desmond Llewelyn), and Defence Minister Freddie Gray (Geoffrey Keen). What is he doing? Q replies, “He’s achieving reentry”—a standard Roger Moore–era quip.
