Whitby-class anti-submarine frigate of the Royal Navy that, anchored in Gibraltar Harbour in December 1966, served as the location for the military “funeral” of James Bond (Sean Connery) in You Only Live Twice. In the film, Gibraltar is playing Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong.
When Bond’s “body” is dumped into the harbor, the film, in reality, cuts to the Bahamas, where underwater cinematographer Lamar Boren filmed the body floating to the ocean floor. Two scuba divers then rescue it and bring it to a waiting British submarine. The actual interior of the sub was located in the east tunnel of Pinewood Studios, and was completed in mid-October 1966.
HMS Tenby was sold to the Pakistan Navy in 1975 and scrapped in 1977.
