KHAO PHING KAN

An unusually picturesque island off the coast of Thailand where filmmakers shot the home and solar energy complex of Scaramanga (Christopher Lee) in The Man with the Golden Gun. In the story, the island is located off the coast of China and is protected from interlopers by Red Chinese troops who man a neighboring island surveillance outpost. Scaramanga’s refuge was built by Hai Fat (Richard Loo) and his Bangkok-based construction company.

In addition to its solar station with its liquid helium-filled basins, the home also features an incredible “fun house” training maze, through which Scaramanga hunts his fully armed opponents.
