MÜRREN

Contributed by: The James Bond Movie Encyclopedia by Steven Jay Rubin

A small, picturesque village in Switzerland, located beneath the Schilthorn peak, which became a principal location in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service in 1968. It was atop the Schilthorn that a revolving restaurant, dubbed Piz Gloria, was constructed. It, too, became a location in the film, along with the fully functional cable car/funicular that connected the restaurant to Mürren below.

Mürren proved to be an excellent location for other reasons. Not only were there excellent ski runs nearby, but it was a good place for the filmmakers to construct a working bobsled run, which was completed on the site of an older run that had been closed since 1937.
