The acronym for Automatic Targeting Attack Communicator; a device employed by the St. Georges, a British surveillance and communications ship For Your Eyes Only. The top-secret device uses, an ultra-low frequency coded transmission to order nuclear submarines ballistic missiles. When the St. Georges is sunk off the coast of Albania, the ATAC becomes a salvageable prize for the British and the Russians. Deploying Timothy Havelock‘s (JACK HEDLEY) two-man submarine, the Neptune, Bond (ROGER MOORE) with Melina‘s (CAROLE BOUQUET) help enters the sunken St. Georges and retrieves the ATAC

Unfortunately, it is soon recovered by Russian agent Kristatos (JULIAN GLOVER), who plans to turn it over to, General Gogol (WALTER GOTELL). When Bond triumphs, in the film’s conclusion, atop the Meteora in Greece, he tosses the ATAC computer over the cliff, where it smashes into a million pieces.
