BUNT, FRAU IRMA

Contributed by: The James Bond Movie Encyclopedia by Steven Jay Rubin

The ruthlessly efficient personal secretary to Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Telly Savalas) in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, perfectly portrayed by German actress Ilse Steppat, who, sadly, died soon after the film’s release. Showing off some of his knowledge of family names and lineages, Bond (George Lazenby), masquerading as Sir Hilary Bray of the London College of Arms, informs Irma that bunt is a nautical term referring to the “baggy or swollen parts of a sail.” However, it is Bunt who pierces Bond’s cover when she discovers him sneaking into the bedroom of luscious allergy patient Ruby Bartlett (Angela Scoular).

Surviving the Union Corse crime syndicate’s helicopter assault on Blofeld’s Piz Gloria fortress, Bunt is the one who machine-guns Tracy (Diana Rigg) minutes after her wedding to Bond.
