FAKE FINGERPRINTS

Contributed by: The James Bond Movie Encyclopedia by Steven Jay Rubin

An ingenious invention supplied by Q (Desmond Llewelyn) in Diamonds Are Forever. Convinced that a diamond smuggling syndicate has elaborate methods of confirming the identity of its couriers, Q provides James Bond (Sean Connery) with a set of these phony fingerprints, which 007 wears to Amsterdam when he takes on the identity of smuggler Peter Franks (Joe Robinson). Sure enough, when he arrives at the apartment of fellow smuggler Tiffany Case (Jill St. John), she takes his drinking glass, dusts it for fingerprints, and then compares them to those of the real Peter Franks. They match, and Bond’s cover is left intact.
