FRANKS, PETER

Tough British diamond smuggler portrayed by actor/stuntman Joe Robinson in Diamonds Are Forever. Franks is an international courier for a diamond smuggling syndicate that is being decimated by Ernst Stavro Blofeld (Charles Gray) and SPECTRE. Captured by the British Secret Service on his way to Amsterdam for a pickup, Franks is replaced in the pipeline by James Bond (Sean Connery), who assumes Franks’s identity. He receives his credentials from Miss Moneypenny (Lois Maxwell) at the English Channel crossing.

Bond also benefits from a fantastic invention from Q Branch: phony fingerprints that convince smuggler Tiffany Case (Jill St. John) that he’s the genuine Franks. Unfortunately, Franks escapes from the British and arrives at Case’s Amsterdam apartment, where he is killed by 007 in a vicious elevator fight. Bond then switches wallets with the dead man and allows Tiffany to discover his identification on the corpse, leading her to declare, “You’ve just killed James Bond!”
