GOTHARD, MICHAEL

(June 24, 1939–December 2, 1992): British actor who portrayed villainous Emile Locque in For Your Eyes Only. A native of Hendon, Middlesex, England, Gothard made his feature film debut as Max, the young poet star of director Don Levy’s drama Herostratus (1967).

Specializing in characters with odd traits and personalities, Gothard also appeared in Scream and Scream Again (1970), with Bond player Christopher Lee; The Last Valley (1971); The Devils (1971); Whoever Slew Auntie Roo? (1972); The Three Musketeers (1973); Warlords of the Deep (1978), with fellow Bond veterans Hal Galili (Goldfinger), Shane Rimmer, and Robert Brown; Lifeforce (1985); and Christopher Columbus: The Discovery (1992), with fellow Bond vets Robert Davi and Benicio Del Toro, directed by 007 veteran John Glen.

Sadly, while under treatment for depression, Gothard died by suicide in 1992.
