(a.k.a. Number 2): SPECTRE’s ruthless one-eyed spymaster, portrayed by Adolfo Celi in Thunderball. Posing as a wealthy businessman in Nassau, Bahamas, who collects predator fish for marine institutions, Largo is actually in charge of SPECTRE’s ambitious “NATO project.” The ultimate international blackmail scheme, the plan calls for the hijacking of two NATO atomic bombs from an English jet bomber, and a ransom demand for $280 million dollars (100 million pounds). If their demands are not met, SPECTRE will destroy a major city in either England or the United States.

With a large amphibious force under his command, Largo maintains his field headquarters aboard the Disco Volante, a huge pleasure yacht that can also convert to a speedy hydrofoil in emergency situations. His Palmyra estate is a few minutes from downtown Nassau.

But Largo is no match for Bond (Sean Connery). In quick order, he loses several games of baccarat; his mistress, Domino (Claudine Auger); his right arm, Vargas (Philip Locke), his fellow SPECTRE assassin Fiona Volpe (Luciana Paluzzi), and most of his command; his atomic bombs; and finally, his prize yacht, which crashes into a reef. Largo himself is speared by Domino in the film’s thrilling finale.
