SLUMBER INC.

The Las Vegas mortuary run by Morton Slumber (David Bauer) in Diamonds Are Forever. It’s actually a cover for an international diamond smuggling syndicate. When James Bond (Sean Connery) arrives in Los Angeles carrying a fifty-thousand-carat diamond cache—in the body of Peter Franks—he is greeted by a hearse and three goons from the syndicate. They transport him to the desert mortuary in Vegas—which, in real life, was actually one of the offices of the Las Vegas Visitors Bureau—where 007 meets Slumber.

At Slumber Inc., James Bond has one of his most terrifying brushes with death. Knocked out by assassins Mr. Wint (Bruce Glover) and Mr. Kidd (Putter Smith), he’s tossed into a coffin and placed in the mortuary’s crematorium. In a frighteningly claustrophobic sequence, Bond fights to get out of the coffin, which is engulfed by flames.

Fortunately, Slumber and Shady Tree (Leonard Barr) discover that the diamonds Bond has brought are phonies, and they retrieve him from the crematorium just in time.
